My name is Ashley, and mental health plays a huge role in both my work and personal life. I’m a nurse and have spent more than 10 years working in various mental health settings. Before that I was a pharmacist, so I’m very interested in how medications work. I also have major depressive disorder, for which I’ve been hospitalized multiple times. These different perspectives have combined into a pragmatic, holistic, recovery-focused approach to mental health issues.
I have chosen to use my own experiences to raise awareness about mental health issues and combat stigma. My work has been published in Visions: BC’s Mental Health and Addictions Journal, Canadian Nurse, the Journal of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing, and Archives in Psychiatric Nursing. I’m excited to venture into the blogosphere.
The more we talk about mental health issues the better – on so many levels. It is the strongest weapon we have in the fight against stigma. I would love to hear what you have to say or what you would like to see me write about. Let’s start this conversation! And I’ll warn you… my pet guinea pigs will jump into the conversation at any possible opportunity 🐹
